Mergers and acquisitions data and trend research from SDR Ventures’ recently released Q2 2016 Food & Beverage Report has been featured in the online food publication, Food Dive.

In the first article, “Report: Alcoholic beverages lead Q2 M&A transactions,” author Carolyn Heneghan cites from SDR’s report that 49 second-quarter transactions were recorded in the alcoholic beverage segment, followed by CPG foods with 44 and non-alcoholic beverages with 26. The article attributes this influx to the increasing trend of large beer companies acquiring craft brewers to help counteract their decline in market share.

SDR’s report highlights Anheuser-Busch InBev, E. & J. Gallo Winery, Hormel, McCormick and Amplify Snack Brands as the most active strategic buyers within the food and beverage space.

SDR’s report was also cited in the Food Dive article, “Craft breweries help hops farmers get ahead,” which again sourced M&A transaction data from SDR. The article outlines the massive positive effect that the rise of craft breweries has had for hops farmers, due primarily to the fact that craft beer is typically much more concentrated with hops than most beer brewed by larger breweries.
