Finally, congress will be forced to play by the same rules as everyone else. On Thursday, the Senate passed the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge Act, which prohibits lawmakers from trading stocks based on information they acquire on Capitol Hill.

Passing in the Senate by a large, 96-3 margin, the bill now moves to the House. House Republican leaders have promised to move the bill through, at least in some version, by the end of February.

The measure is no doubt an attempt to garner improved public support and confidence. Both houses of congress have suffered abysmal approval ratings over the past year.
