Beyond the general bios of where we used to work and where we went to college, we want our clients and contacts to get to know a little more about us. In our new blog series “Get to Know the SDR Team,” we are providing a behind-the-scenes look at some of the interesting activities each individual team member is involved in.  First up, Chris Bouck, Co-Founder here at SDR Ventures. If you have been following the SDR Blog for a while you know that Chris is an avid hiker.

This story actually begins eight years ago when Chris’s son Luke, at age 9, asked Chris to take him on his first 14er hike on Grays Peak. After that successful summit Luke was hooked and began researching 14ers.  Together Chris and Luke decided to set a goal of summiting all 53 Colorado 14er peaks.

In early August Chris and Luke embarked on a weekend long expedition to summit Conundrum Peak and Castle Peak, their 38th and 39th peaks.  Traveling all the way to the Elk Mountain Range near Aspen, Colorado the pair began with Castle Peak, which is the highest peak in the range at an elevation of 14,265 feet and the 12th ranked 14ner. After a 13 mile hike, the two made it to the summit.

Next, the Boucks began their second hike of the trip, Conundrum Peak at an elevation of 14,060 feet.  Chris & Luke were lucky enough to meet a photographer on the peak who snapped this amazing shot at the top of Conundrum in which you can see Castle Peak in the background.

For their final hike in August (this is number three in a month for those keeping track), Chris and Luke, braved the fierce weather of Culebra, which is a grueling 7 mile hike in good conditions.  They did, despite Mother Nature’s best efforts, reach the peak.
