We have reached week eight of the blog series “Get to Know the SDR Team,” and we are happy to introduce Stephanie Brooks, Controller.   We have thus far introduced you to hikers, bikers and dancers, so it is only fitting that we also have a runner here at the SDR office.

Stephanie has been involved in sports from a young age, playing soccer in high school and basketball in college.  After college Stephanie found a passion for running, she began running to stay in shape and quickly decided to start competing in short races.  This fall she decided to push herself and run her first half marathon at the Denver Rock & Roll Marathon.

Training to run 13.1 miles is no easy feat, so Stephanie began by putting together a precise training schedule to help not only increase her endurance but her time.  As part of her training, Stephanie rose every morning before work to run a minimum of 3 miles and also participated in a 10 mile run, Fans on the Field in September.  Over a twelve week period she ran a total of 270 miles!

For those of you who are not familiar with the Rock & Roll Marathon the route is set up throughout Denver taking runners past some of Denver’s most iconic parks including City Park, Cheesman Park and Civic Center Park and along course are stages for local bands to play concerts.   This event has become one of the most popular races in Denver over the past years.  So when the day of the race finally arrived Stephanie was ready to run and have some fun.   Stephanie surpassed her goal of running 8:30 minute miles and ran an average rate of 8:18 minute miles with a total race time of 1:48:44.  We are very proud of her!

Stephanie now has the half marathon bug and is planning on running the Colfax in May and another 10 mile run, the Cherry Creek Sneak in April.  Check out the picture below from her Fans on the Field race with her son who also participated in the kids run.
