Social Media Poll Results – Q3 2012

We would like to thank those that participated in the survey, your responses contributed to the production of meaningful results.

Q3 2012 Theme – “Social Media Slump”

With 70% of SDR’s clients and contacts indicating that they use social media, and another 12% admitting that they know they should be using it, it’s clear that social media is popular with today’s businesspeople. Despite the popularity, the largest group of SDR poll respondents (40%) has yet to see results from invested time and energy.

With all the hype around the usefulness of companies implementing social media and the demonstrated use by SDR’s contacts, why is it that 40% of survey respondents state they don’t see any results? Experts say that it can take six months to a year to see results because social media marketing is a long term strategy for a small business.* Additionally, social-media-networking takes considerably more time than face-to-face networking; there are multiple reports that claim it can take anywhere from 5-20 meaningful contacts with clients before business is closed.* Unfortunately, social media takes a LOT of time and effort and the one thing today’s businesses don’t have, excess time.

As evidenced by this blog post, SDR has invested time and energy into social media.

We get blogging…

We get LinkedIn…

We get Facebook…

We think we get Twitter…

Like most of you, we’re still trying to get the bigger social media picture. If/when we get it, we’ll send out a tweet.
